"It is not uncommon to link our perceptions about God to our childhood experiences with people who played powerful roles in our life. If we have been victimized in the past by people who were capricious, abusive, distant, uncaring, or incompetent, we may now anticipate these qualities in God. Just because God is a power greater than we are and the people who victimized us represented a power greater than we were, we must not conclude that God will harm us if we entrust our life to him." - The Life Recovery Bible
God says, “I will never fail you. I will never abandon you.” Hebrews 13:5
Coming from a abusive background emotionally, sexually, and physically, proper nuturing was not displayed to me growing up. I had a very limited scope of what love actually was. My perception of God, even after I became a Christian, was He was an entity in the Heavens.
The healing that has been taking place in my damaged heart these past few years has opened up to new territories for me. Some very scary. The biggest realizing my Heavenly Daddy is nothing like my earthly daddy. Being able to trust my Heavenly Daddy more and more in the area of His love! Not only with trusting Him, but the people He has put in my life who are extending His love to me.
and has now come when the true worshipers will worship
the Father in spirit and truth, for they are the
kind of worshipers the Father seeks." - John 4:23
My Heavenly Daddy is healing
me from the inside out.
Transparency is Real.
Many times painful.
Daddy let me be secure in You only!

Having Coming from a very abusive background it is hard not to believe God is the same. I am a Christian and do love God, but lack that closeness with Him that I believe He wants. I find this true with people on this earth also. I know in my heart I am robbing myself, but I just don't know how to over come the fear. I do want to heal if this is possible.I am so broken.
ReplyDeleteI believe God knows how influenced we are by our past pain and is so patient and gentle as He shows His great love to us. He continues to woo us and reveal Himself to us, and we continue to see how much He is not like man.
ReplyDeleteAmazing quote and post. :)
ReplyDeleteHugs,

Trusting is scary so it is hard to do this. A key here is to read and know God's word then in faith that His word is true we take the step of trust and walk over that cliff all the while knowing, from our lack of knowledge, that maybe He won't be there, but because He is God and His word is true, He is there to catch us. It is very scary to do but the more we do this the more we realize yes, He is there and He will catch us. He is trustworthy. But we will never, ever know this unless we take that leap of faith. But, like I said, it all starts with reading and knowing His word first.
ReplyDeleteYou are growing so much hon!
<><
That is more important JBR to draw nearer and nearer to the Lord so no need to apologize if you haven't paid me a visit :)
ReplyDeleteI can't imagine the difficulty in trusting and accepting God's love when your trust was violated and your heart broken by those who were supposed to support you and love you. But knowing He is indeed the truth, the way and the life, I know you will overcome. He is an awesome Father! Have a great weekend...
oh so good
ReplyDeleteand so true.
I think we keep having to ask
the Lord
"who ARE you?"
for that very reason.
Comforting post...thank you.

ReplyDelete"1 Corinthians 10:13 No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it."
