Do you have any phrases you use, besides the “None of Your Business” or expletives with people who are in your face wanting a piece of you (i.e. what’s the scoop in your life)?
I heard the other day someone using the following phrase, “You are On a When To Need Know Basis” when expressing to individuals in their lives who get just a tad bit too close in stepping over the lines of established boundaries. I thought that was a really cool phrase to use when you do not want to share something.
My usual line is ,"If I thought it was any of your business I'd probably tell you."
ReplyDeleteGood one AD!
ReplyDeleteyou want to know WHAT?????
ReplyDeleteI can just hear the tone in your voice on that one Mike!
ReplyDeleteI usually just keep it real simple and real non-confrontational and just say something like, "that's personal".
ReplyDeleteShort, sweet, to the point.
Good luck,
PG
Yeah, PG, that is the safest way out, I quite agree.
ReplyDeleteAs reverently as I'm able, I say, "None of your G-D business!"
ReplyDeleteAnd that's the truth! You didn't know that about me, right? Well, it has to be fairly disturbing...
I typically answer a question with a question, if I don't want to answer... such as, "Well, what do you think?" (learned from my many years on the 'couch'.
ReplyDeleteOr, if I am in the 'bad place' I might say, "it's an on a need to know basis, and if you needed to you~ I would've told you..."
Or, you could always change the subject..."Is that a new sweater? It's a great color for you."
I do like *slapped* tho - might try it :-)

Nah, Stevie, you do not surprise me! You are who you are dear one!
ReplyDeleteGrace-Hmmmmmm...... yep, I can relate.
Hi again
ReplyDeleteI'm currently learning assertiveness with my rehab counsellor. I still haven't had the courage to put it into practice.
I can be assertive with people I don't know but when it comes to intrusive friends and family I'm at a loss what to do.
Thank you again for all your encouraging words.
God Bless
Amber
Amber, I can relate. I know it is very difficult to set boundaries and to be assertive! You are on the right path though!
ReplyDeletei very sweet say "if you should know this, i would have told you...."
ReplyDeleteVery straightforward Shadow. No pulling any punhces! Well done!
ReplyDeleteI do like that saying also. Some good comments, I am not one to pull punches so have no problem telling someone to mind there business but it can be hard with family. You just do what is comfortable for you :)
ReplyDeleteTabby, sounds good to me!
