The title may throw you. Apparently this is a southern term. Comes in handy when describing the devil.

Since satan is a thief, killer and a liar, who loves to whisper in our ear deception.

Lies like that we cannot depend on God. Lies that God is not going to give us what we asked for. Lies that we are unworthy and undeserving. And most of all lies that we are going to stay sick and broke and defeated.

Satan, who really is a wimp, says all this stuff to us because he is a sorry no good cuss.

Has anyone else heard of this term and its meaning?

  1. Never heard of that my friend.

  2. Nope. That is a new one on me. But, I sure know what you mean about Satan being a liar, and trying to convince us that we will never get better or recover. That lie nearly cost me my life some years back. So glad it wasn't true, and that God has beautiful plans for each of our lives. Praise God!!

Awww, thanks so much for putting me on your blog list! What an honor!!

  3. This is the first time I have heard this saying.

  4. I heard the term when I was younger. It is NOT a good thing.

  5. I just head it now, but it works better for me to meditate what God says I am and when the enemy says the opposite, i just remind him who I am in the eyes of God. Helps too to see the bright sides of life and pray to see others through God's eyes.
You are in the right path JBR. Just feel and be saturated by God's love. Bless you dear:)

  6. never before... but yeah, he does have the knack to turning things on you and leaving you empty and defeated...

  7. When I was in a charismatic group, it seemed their focus was constantly on what the devil cannot do, instead of what God can do. We are told there will be trials and tribulation in this lifetime, to expect it, but God will get us through each fiery trial. The Apostle Paul talked of how he was in despair because of the persecution from his own. Jesus grew tired of those of His own and their stiff necks, resulting in Him calling them brood of vipers, white wash tombs with dead bones, etc.

As long as I was battling the devil and demons of my past, all I could see was what the devil was doing, like Job, I cried out. Not much has changed in my battle, except whom, I focus on more, God, His promises for eternity. As it has been said, looking around or down, does not grant the hope we need to get through, only looking up does.

I live with a southern and even he says that is not a good term and no longer says it. Often we have habits we do not realize are not pleasing to God. I grew up hearing a term, almost daily, but once the Lord showed me how others perceived it, I stop saying it and will not even repeat it here. The Bible tells us we are not to speak of the evil deeds men do. Being sexually abused I battled with how does one deal with evil if we are not to speak of it.

We are not to speak of the details of evil but call it as Jesus did and God does in His Word. So often people want the sensational details of an event that took place, in the case of drunk driving sometimes those details are a shock factor to wake people up to the reality of the dangers of drinking and driving. However, in other cases the shock factor is not necessary.

God tells us His measure of perfection is a call to be abhorred by anything of the flesh and the sin nature. Our tender hearts, made so by salvation and the transforming of our minds, are becoming more sensitive to the things that do not please God, as we mature in His Word.

May be we blessed with tender hearts.

  8. Heard it the first time. :))

  9. I remember hearing it in childhood by some of the older folks, and no, it is not good, therefore aptly describing the enemy.

  10. No, I have not heard of the term but I can relate to the lies you mentioned-not good enough and so on :-).
