The following excerpts pretty much explains what I feel and go through:
"Childhood trauma darkens the child’s vision of the future as well as her attitudes about people. Young people who have been traumatized will voice cautious, one-day-at-a-time attitudes. They may say that you can’t count on anyone. Sexually traumatized girls may shrink from men (using avoidance to cope with the trauma) or approach them with overly friendly sexual advances (in an attempt to master the trauma by trying to relive it). Traumatized children tend to recognize the profound vulnerability in all people, especially themselves.
Trauma-related fears often persist into adulthood. While some anxious children express apprehension about growing up or getting married, sexually abused children may grow up fearing sexual contact." - American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry
-and-
"People suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder may become immediately distressed when they are exposed to situations or conditions that resemble or remind them of their trauma in some way. For instance, a woman who was sexually abused during wintertime may get depressed when it turns cold; or a veteran may get angry and hostile each year on Memorial Day." -Kaiser Permanente
That being said, there is hope in healing!
Gylchris Sprauve wrote and sings this song for victims of sexual abuse. I feel it is beautifully and meaningfully performed.
Being able to relate to the words brings the feelings ever so closer to what I went through. I highlighted the bit about becoming depressed when it gets cold. This is true in my case. Especially between the months of October - February.
Even though the affects from being sexually abused may differ, there are still signs that are relatable from all forms of abuse.
You've tried to make the way you feel.
But the words are few and hard to find.
Your heart has grown as hard as steel.
To make sure no one sees behind.
The walls you've built.
Killing trust.
Because trusting got you where you are.
You never thought that a dirty touch.
Could keep on haunting you this far.
But clinging to a primal hope.
That somehow life will see you through.
You burn with anger trying to cope.
With others hurtful words.
To you life just carries on.
Forcing you at times to hide.
Sometimes you wish that you'd rather die.
Because living is too high a price.
But I got healing in my hands.
I will take your pain away.
I will break the shackles of your painful past.
How I long to make you whole.
Give you peace and self control.
Place your trust in Me.
There is healing in my hands.
I've taken special care to see.
That the right things happen in your life.
I understand your faith in me.
Has been marred with many years of strife.
And then you turn somehow I must find somehow.
To win your heart again.
Don't make me say these words in vain.
Please let me start to win your pain.
I've got healing in my hands.
I will take your pain away.
I will break the shackles of your broken past.
How I long to make you whole,
Give you peace and self control.
Place your trust in Me.
There is healing in my hands.
Just take a chance. Just take a chance.
There is healing in my hands.
I will take the shame away.
I will break the shackles of your broken past.
and has now come when the true worshipers will worship
the Father in spirit and truth, for they are the
kind of worshipers the Father seeks." - John 4:23

ReplyDeleteI'm grateful everyday for the hope we have in Him! It restores. Heals. Renews...May you have a wonderful Thanksgiving JBR! God bless and protect you.
ReplyDeleteI hate it when I learn that children are abused, and especially sexually abused. It makes my stomach sick, and it makes me very angry.
ReplyDeleteMay you continue to be a voice for the ones who are young and confused and afraid to tell someone.
Like Denise said, ... I am very thankful for those healing hands.
May the peace of Christ dwell within you today and everyday. May you always remember His love and sacrifice to redeem you (us) to Him especially in those times when something triggers the past memories.
In Christ, Deanna

Hi JBR. I'm so glad you recognize that there is healing in God's hands. For someone who has suffered as you have, that is the best place of healing ever (not that I don't think professional counseling, medications, etc. can't be helpful as well, but I think you know what I mean). I hope that this Thanksgiving, you will feel a peace in your heart, and the healing healthy touch of God in your life. How sad I am that you suffer so; how proud I am of you that you continue to seek God and give Him glory in spite of that suffering!
ReplyDeleteHow I long to make you whole.
ReplyDeleteGive you peace and self control.
Place your trust in Me.
There is healing in my hands.
Amen
The struggles continue, but faith mus prevail.
Hi JBR. This is so good because the only true healing we can find is, In HIS Hands! No way can we break the shackles on our own. Only JESUS!!!
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful Thanksgiving JBR.
God bless you...Chelle
Happened upon your blog and I'm glad that I did. Your abuse is similar to what I grew up with. This song is beautiful. My daughter is sitting beside me listening with tears in her eyes. Thanks very much for being a brave warrior for the abused.
