CONTROLLING

Despite it being one of the holiest days today (Happy Easter to all who observe), the blood relative I met up with at church this morning could not resist just before going in to make it a point that “I have changed and I am not the “sweet” person I used to be.” Not only in telling me this, but whipping out a photograph to push in the arrow of guilt even deeper into my heart and reiterating, “that is the sweet girl I once knew.” Then topping it off that they were not pleased with what I was wearing.

Emergency Mind Walk was awaiting me….but I could not attend to my sorting out this controlling issue with a walk as the service was soon to begin and I really wanted to hear God’s word, but had the insensitive remarks earlier rest on my thinking throughout, which pissed me off greatly. So there I sat in the service, pretending all is well, and boiling inside. All the while, this insensitive individual who thinks they are doing me a favor by desiring what they once knew of me to return, unfortunately is pushing me away even more at this time. I was gracious in my responding, but furious underneath.

  1. What an awful thing to say, especially at Easter when you're going to church. Don't let it get to you. There's no reflection on you. We all have people who are insensitive like this.

  5. Your relative sounds insensitive and mean-spirited. Not someone that I would put a lot of stock in. Sorry this person put a damper on your Easter.

  6. Alcoholics Anonymous calls their book of the same name, “The Big Book.” This is the basic text for their society and it is referred to as the “book of experience.”

It shares with members the steps to their recovery program and personal stories of the experiences of its members.

Many Christians - One Sober Alcoholic - support and condone these 12 steps programs but a closer look reveals that groups like AA actually function in conflict with Scripture.

Below are reasons why “The Big Book” cannot be used in conjunction with “The Book”, the Holy Bible.

First we must remember that psychology is man’s attempt to solve spiritual problems. Any attempt to excuse, justify or label behavior is an attempt to cover up sin. God’s Word is clear, certain behaviours are sinful, not diseases.

Galatians 5: 19 Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are fornication, uncleanness, immodesty, luxury,

20 Idolatry, witchcrafts, enmities, contentions, emulations, wraths, quarrels, dissensions, sects,

21 Envies, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like. Of the which I foretell you, as I have foretold to you, that they who do such things shall not obtain the kingdom of God.

  7. Some people just do not "get it." I am sorry this ruined your Easter service. Try thinking of it this way. Some people did not "get" Jesus either. They liked him better when he was quiet and not telling the truth or "being real." He knows just how you feel. You are not alone.
Thanks for visiting my blogs and for your encouragement. I wish you a blessed and holy and happy Easter!

  9. Yeah, let's get 'real'!!! That person in the church who wanted you "back like you used to be" must be related to "Mickey", the fellow who sent all over our little blog world the phony dAve comments. Please know, the real Dave is dAAve (TWO "A"s!) The 'Phony' commented above...

"Like you used to be???" Hole CRAP! That kind of person wants you DEAD! I steer clear of them. I'd probably go to a differently-timed service, or to another church, with the same cross on top!

  10. Hi again

I know how you feel! People used to say stuff like that to me and I'd crash down into a deep depression. It's just awful when people push your buttons like this.

Try to remember how precious you are to so many people and, of course, to God. Those sort of comments are their problem not yours.

I will be praying for you.

    God Bless

    Amber

  11. I've learned one very important thing in recovery: family can sometimes behave like a pack of wild dogs when it comes to other family members. You only have two people to worry about pleasing, IMNSHO. God and yourself. That's it. The rest can get glad in the same pants they got mad in or not. What ever suits them. You are beautiful in God's eyes and that's ALL that matters. You are so beautiful to Him that He sent His only Son to die for you. That's pretty darned special in my book. {{{Hugs}}} to you.

  13. I'm in pursuit of checking out a few blogs of interest. I work in the mental health field. There is certainty a controlling issue here with your relative. You need to assess the situation and see if it is doing more harm than not and act on it.

  15. It's so sad that the person did that to you on Easter Sunday of all days. After all, you just wanted to go in and hear God's word and then I'm sure it was hard to hear the message at all. I can sort of relate because I had a family member say some really critical materialistic things about a few other family members on Easter Sunday and it totally distracted me. I really felt the need to hear God's word and there I sat not able to concentrate because of being floored by those family criticisms. Anyway, glad to have found you. Thanks for stopping by my blog. I appreciated the words of encouragement.
