It has been a rough few days of upheaval for me at work with an uproar of dissension brought on by a co-worker that has a few people very very angry and then yesterday while I was speaking with my mum on the phone, she began to "tell" me that she wanted me to do something for her this coming weekend.
For the first time I replied back to her, "are you asking me to do something?" She said, "yes." I then said, "it did not sound like you were asking me but telling me and you did not even ask if I had plans." She then said, "I was hoping you would do it." She got mad that I was questioning her.
She does not see it from my perspective. Could I possibly have a life and it would be nice if she would of asked if I was busy that day and not just "assume and demand" that I come and help her.
She does not get it..... Well..... not yet that is.

I've been there, my friend, and all I can say is I no longer have patience for people who don't have consideration towards me. I tend to cut my conversations short and make myself less available to them, which is tougher when it's family. Hope both your situations improve and that you find peace.

It's a major psychological conversion from being parent of a child to being parent of an adult. Most of us do make that conversion; for some, it takes longer than others. Perhaps your mother needs to be reminded that you are no longer that toddler that she had to take care of and direct. (It's hard to tell what is driving her because I don't know her.) I pray things change in your relationship.
ReplyDeleteI hoping she will soon see that you do have your own life. See needs to see you as an adult and not that young child anymore. I'm sorry you have been having such a rough week. Thinking and caring about you.(((((JBR)))))
ReplyDeleteHugs to you JBR. I've been dealing with someone too with who I keep butting heads with. My stand...show compassion anyways...to me and to her. So hard to do though. Stay strong.
ReplyDeleteIt sounds like you are being able to use your voice with your mother. Good for you! Even if she doesn't get it, you are standing up for yourself, and that is so empowering:)

Raising a parent is tough work JBR! I gave up on raising my coworkers up to be responsible adults a long time ago! :)
ReplyDeleteWAY TO GO, JBR! That took a big step on your part. It's wonderful that you stood up to her. Stand your ground, sweetie....eventually she'll GET IT! :> )
ReplyDeleteBlessings~

you will just have to “train” her to see that you are a grownup woman with your own life...Will she ever”get it”...well keep trying!
ReplyDeleteperhaps pointing it out to her will open her eyes a bit, maybe not now, but soon enough. and hope the coworker thing works out...
ReplyDeleteMay you continue to stand your ground with her sweetie.
