OUTWARD SIGNS

Since I have more time on my hands after being laid off a week ago, I am walking more. Where I walk is a park. Young children play in the park. Setting me back in memory to their age.

Such carefree children. One cannot image that they have fears. Was I the same? Did anyone know what was going on in my house? With my parents constant arguing? With my brother sexually abusing me? Did I show any outward signs of trouble?

As I walked towards my destination, I pondered the thought, "If I were to sit down with these children, would I be able to detect problems at home?"

  1. JBR I'm sure you'd be able to recognize abuse. There is so much talk and information about it now a days. Most people probably would question it if they saw signs. I'm sure you'd recognize behaviour which provokes fear of violence or isolation and any emotional stress or mental anguish. God Bless.

  2. What deep thoughts! Good ones too. :) I believe, like onthewaynow, that you would recognize the behaviour of abuse in children. You know the signs and are sensitive in your spirit.

I am glad you have time for walking. This will help your blood pressure.

    Praying for you hon!

  3. Thank you to the following individual who left this message in my email:

    JBR -

You were an answer to my prayer and the short trip to the truth this morning, thank you. Regarding your blog today, "Outward Signs", I hope this verse helps.

    Psalm 107:29-31

    29 He calms the storm,
So that its waves are still.
    30 Then they are glad because they are quiet;
So He guides them to their desired haven.
31 Oh, that men would give thanks to the LORD for His goodness,
And for His wonderful works to the children of men!

    God's Blessings with Love.

  4. It's sad that more abuse is not caught when it is happening.

  5. Thank you for posting Psalm 107 passage, JBR. I was not familiar with that one, though I often pray for Jesus to calm the seas of anxiousness inside of me.

  7. YOU KNOW JBR I TRULY RESPECT PEOPLE WHO STAY STRONG, EVEN WHEN THEY HAVE EVERY RIGHT TO BREAK DOWN. YOU'VE SHOWN THIS. THINGS DO HAPPEN TO US TO MAKE US REALIZE OUR TRUE POTENTIAL, STRENGTH, WILL POWER AND HEART. JBR STAY STRONG!

  8. I think kids have an amazing ability to play and run and sing
    and skip and jump
    even when they're in hell.
I think it's rare the child
    who is not experiencing trauma
    of some kind.
    So sad but true.
I wonder (and smile over) if your walking by brings healing
    into their dark places.
Oh I just bet it does....your own
process sending out sparks of light
    and healing
    without you even aware:)

  9. I love your observations. It's like looking into our own past, when around little ones, isn't it? I tried to imagine my own little Me on a playground...Nope, no one would know. We were too good at hiding that part of life away and securely keeping it OUT of the light...
Thanks for provoking my thoughts again. : )

I'm a retired teacher and know there are many problems in the homes of children today. This breaks my heart.
