TOMBOY LITTLE GIRL

On my daily walks that I do in the park near where I live, today someone left a basketball on the half court in the park. The bright orange ball caught my Little Girls' attention. Right away she wanted to run up and pick up the ball and play. At the same time my Big Girl said "NO!" Then telling her, "You would be an embarrassment to anyone seeing you as an adult playing by yourself."

Wow, I then thought to myself. Stopping me in my tracks. Quickly going after my desire, I rebelled and said out loud, "I don't care." Not caring who heard me say that.

So, off I went to the court, picked up the ball and for about ten minutes shot hoops. Enjoying every minute of it!

I was a natural tomboy growing up. Constantly playing any sports to enjoy myself. Later I found out, escaping in sports was a diversion from being at home where there was not much of the joy around.

    Be well,

  6. Hey that's awesome, JBR!! Good for you. I'm glad you didn't even care what anyone else thought. Besides, if I had walked by and saw you playing, I don't think I would have thought anything other than, "Oh, that lady is playing basketball." Then I would have moved on and thought nothing else about it. It's funny how we always assume people are always thinking different things about us when in reality, most people are so busy they barely notice!

  8. I really admire you for tuning out the worry and going for it! The same thing happened recently when I went to the park and seen the swing...I didn't listen to my "Little girl" pleading to swing and kept walking on...but I was worried my hubby would not notice I hung behind and then would not wait for me...He would have...but the abandment issues never completely go away I guess.
You are doing so well with your recovery process, and it is inspiring and delightful to see!

  10. You did the right and wonderful thing! It doesn't matter what others think. You have to do what is right for "all" of you.
Joy and freedom. Just what you needed. I am sure you know God put that ball right there in front of you. Peace.

  11. I was a tomboy as a child. I used to love to climb trees and play with bugs.

I'm glad you "shot some hoops" with the basketball. I still enjoy some childhood favorites like swinging on the swings.

Adults need to "play" too sometimes. We all need a break from the "adult world" from time to time. I know this is true for me.

    Blessings!

  13. This is a great post sis. I use to be on a basketball team in school and I enjoyed it. My mother didn't want me on it though, she though bouncing a ball around was for boys. Sometimes as adults we need to just say "I don't care" when it come to things we think people might think we're to old to be seen doing, like playing ball, or perhaps jumping in the bouncing castle lol. After a children's party I got a bounce in the bouncing castle before it was deflated and I enjoy every minute of it, although I'm 27.

  14. WONDERFUL post!! It reminded me of when I was in a treatment center for women with addictions. Part of our recovery program was learning how to PLAY again. What fun it was to re-learn how to color, swing, play hopscotch, jumprope (double dutch even!)....We all need to let our little girls out. Often. :)

  15. How precious! Let that little girl breathe and have fun JBR! As you said before, God doesn't see us in our painful past, but as a child of wonders!
Let her play and rekindle the joy that was taken from her!

Hugs and I hope you do this more often :-) ♥
