SPEAKING YOUR JOURNEY

Thus far my speaking of my truth has been on my blog, to my t. and a couple of people I trust IRL.

I especially like the bolded part!

“There’s enormous power in speaking your truth. As poet Audre Lorde wrote, “Your silence will not protect you.” Although there are risks in speaking out, there are dangers in staying silent as well. While it is important to establish a strong foundation before you enter into a truth-telling conversation or difficult disclosure, never doubt your right to tell the truth about your life.”

  1. Amen! I know my story is different, JBR, as I'm dealing with a son addicted to drugs. But, the message is the same. In the beginning I avoided bringing up my son's name in all conversations with acquaintences and even friends. Then, slowly, our truth started to emerge. While we don't gossip about him, or blab- as my husband says, "I won't lie about it either." "Your silence will not protect you," I like that..... Hugs to you.

  3. If I had a dollar for every instance a person tried to silence me, I'd be a very rich lady. Mind you, i've gone a little quiet as of late but that doesn't change the truth of my past. It just puts it neatly back into the closet. It will come back out again, when i'm ready. Hugs. Tammy

  16. I tried to read this book about 9 or 10 years ago. Couldn't get through it then. Just understanding the bold part in my own life, however. I will keep you in my prayers.
