INNER PROMPTINGS OF THE SPIRIT

First off, this post is in NO WAY of me bragging about myself. That is NOT my intention!!

The promptings of the Holy Spirit for me is like a little check in my being that says or nudges me on. It could be from picking up a piece of paper that someone just threw on the ground to going up to someone and giving them a compliment.

One incident, out of many, I remember a few years back, a park that I would walk at in the morning there would always be a homeless man there. One day, I felt the prompting to go buy him some food, which I did. Brought it to him. He was so ever grateful and could not understand why I would be so kind and do something so nice. I obeyed.

There was a time every Sunday morning when I would attend church I would give out a specific candy bar that the newspaper guy enjoyed at the stop light corner he worked at. I would keep it frozen the night before and just before I left for church would take it out of the freezer. He was so happy and would recognize my car after while and expected my arrival every Sunday as I waited in line to turn with that frozen candy bar. Then one day he was not there. God moved him on. I was sad. I obeyed.

I used to send money-orders anonymously to strangers I did not know in the mail or leave it for them. A past co-worker that I was not close to, but overhead a conversation one day that they were in need of money as an example. If I was able to find out their name, I did some detective work and was able to find their address and send off their blessing. Hey, I am not rich, but I felt led to do this. I obeyed.

In obeying the prompting of the Holy Spirit, the Lord uses our obedience to show us more how He is, His character. Everything we do will be sown back to us.

Slowly, but surely as I heal from my own pain, my inner promptings are once again becoming more receptive. I miss having these prompting because it seems I have been so preoccupied with my own emotional healing for the past few years. Not that I need to not tend to myself, as He knows a healthy vessel all around is desirable to do His work.

I am glad that I was reminded of His prompting this morning. Shows that I am slowly healing and being reconnected to His purpose.

  7. Hey JBR. Love the post. Yes, God works in different ways with different people. Look at the people from the bible. He spoke in different ways to Adam, Abraham, Moses, Deborah, Samuel, Elijah, Mary and Paul. He can speak in different ways to us today.

Just as the Holy Spirit decides to give different abilities to different people he works with us in different ways. The Spirit will lead a teacher in a different way than a server, because he has different jobs for each person.

    Amen. God Bless.

The Spirit shapes us in different ways, and as a result, we value different goals. Someone with the gift of administration will value order and organization; someone with the gift of serving will ask whether people are being helped; someone with the gift of encouragement will focus on peoples’ attitudes; people with the gift of generosity will look for needs that they can fill. And the Spirit works with us in the way that he has caused us to be, according to our interests and values.

  11. Yes, my dear, there are moments or months where we so into our therapy and healing and it is necessary. And right. And needed. It is good that you experienced that the urge to help people has returned. I learned in Al Anon to help someone every day without him / her knowing who I am. Was my way of learning to give with open heart and in gratitude. Hugs to you, you are so very precious.

  13. And I can't imagine if we don't listen to His nudging. A lot would surely be missed! Especially for ourselves. In giving, we are the one feeling more blessed doing so.

I'm glad that you are continuing toward recovery! God bless you always.

  15. God does work in wonderous ways. I think He truly blessed you by giving you those service oppurnities. I know that it says in the bible we will be rewarded in Heaven. However, I think sometimes He rewards us now too. For Jesus said His Kingdom is already here. Think back on the past couple of years. Was there anyone who gave service to you? I think God knows that you needed to heal. And I am so happy for you that you are no healing and can be of service to Him again. I know you are doing His service by writing this blog! You don't know how many people it helps. I even don't know how many people it helps, but I do not you have a lot more followers than I do. Keep up the good work JBR.

    Hugs,
    Amanda

  18. ...the prompting is just different now, dear! Possibly, the promptings now are to minister to yourself to show yourself the love He gives us. just a thought.

  20. Hey Just Be Real, thanks for stopping by my blog.

This posts resonates with where I am in my life right now: trying to listen and discern God's prompting and to find the courage and resolve to obey, whether it's a prompting to pray, speak to someone, hush up and listen, do something for someone or whatever. It's so important not to quench the Spirit since He is our guide and our seal and help to hear a welcome as 'a good and faithful servant' when we reach the day of judgment!

    Thanks for sharing.
